Best West Town Brunch Spots

Brunch is probably my favorite meal. You can go either sweet or savory (or both – who are we to judge?) and it’s entirely appropriate, nay, encouraged to enjoy a cocktail midday, so what’s not to love?! As we embark on our brunch tour of Chicago we’ll start this series in the neighborhood of West Town. Known for its eclectic boutiques, and laid back vibe, the West Town dining scene offers everything from little hole-in-the-wall gems to Michelin starred restaurants. So whatever cuisine (or scene) you’re in the mood for this neighborhood offers them all.

For those who want a scene: Beatnik

This instagram friendly restaurant is not only aesthetically beautiful, the food is also delicious. The plates are meant to be shared so don’t be shy about trying different dishes. If you like a little spice let us recommend the Shakshuka, this classic dish is a winner and they’ve added Moroccan spices to give it a little twist. You also can’t go wrong with the Tomato & Burrata toast – between the basil vinaigrette and balsamic glaze this dish is satisfying and refreshing at the same time. Beatnik’s cocktail menu is also seriously fun and they offer mocktails and zero proof wine as well, so whether you’re sipping a libation or enjoying your dry January with a mocktail they have you covered.

For those who love a hole in the wall – Uncle Mikes Place

This small Filipino breakfast place is only open from 6am-2pm and you better be sure to get there early on the weekends as this place fills up quick! For good reason too, the food is delicious. You won’t find any brunch cocktails at this no-frills spot but trust us the food is worth it. Also, do yourself a favor and just go for the skirt steak breakfast – you’re welcome. Their garlic rice is also phenomenal as is their fresh made lugow (Filipino rice porridge).

For those with kids – The Perch

Located on the popular restaurant laden stretch of division street, The Perch (Kitchen & Tap) is a solid, fun staple. We’ve never experienced a bad meal here, the service is always top notch and we love the family friendly vibes complete with both a kids menu and dog menu! So enjoy that prime rib hash and a bloody mary and enjoy your weekend.

For those who want a to-go option – Spinning J

This tiny bakery and soda fountain has limited seating but they offer order ahead and to-go. Honestly, everything is good and you can’t go wrong with whatever you order. We’re a sucker for their grilled cheese, seasonal quiche and cinnamon rolls. Complete your order with an old fashioned soda and you’ll be extremely full and happy!
Pro-tip – they offer a selection of take & bake pastries that you can order ahead. Such a great option especially around the holidays.

For those who want to try the newcomer – Bar Cocina

West Town is the second location for this Modern Mexican restaurant and is next on our list to try. We plan on ordering the Chilaquiles and a plethora of their brunch tacos. Bring all your friends and belly up – they also offer a bottomless brunch option. Let Sunday-Funday begin!
