New Development: A Lincoln Yards Update

Lincoln Yards Development Chicago

Lincoln Yards

The Lincoln Yards development is located in the former industrial area along the North Branch of the Chicago River. This $6 billion dollar mixed-use development by Sterling Bay spans 53 acres and will connect the neighborhoods of Wicker Park / Bucktown and Lincoln Park. Now five years in, the development has undergone a huge environmental clean up process which included cleaning more than 27,000 pounds of impacted soil and removing 36 underground tanks of toxic waste!

First to break ground is the currently under-construction biotech and medical space at 1229 W Concord. This will house 320K SF of lab space, with the hope that medical and tech companies will find a home base in Chicago.

The anticipated Steelyard is the next phase of this development with a 2024 tiered opening. This area of the project will feature cafes, retail, a pedestrian breezeway, apartment building (yet to be named), and 1685 Throop (the only office building slated for the Steelyard). 1685 Throop will house a music venue space as well as five other retail spaces.
A park is also in the plans with features such as gardens, athletic fields, sports courts, dog runs, a connection to the 606, concessions and a boat launch – just to name a few!

With the master plan calling for 6000 housing units, we can’t wait to keep you apprised of these homes to come!
