Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course Lakeview Chicago

The Chicagoland area is home to some of the best most beautiful golf destinations in the country. While most fairways and PGA Tour-worthy greens like Conway Farms, Olympia Fields, and Medinah are located outside the city limits, there’s one that’s just 15 minutes north of downtown.

The Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course at Lakeview is so convenient, you may want to take a swing right after work.

On weekends, golfers usually arrive at 5:30 am to secure tee times – which says a lot about how popular the course is.

Scenery

Sandwiched between Lake Shore Drive and the shores of Lake Michigan, this 9-hole course offers visitors some of the best sights of Lake Michigan and Montrose Harbor as well as sweeping views of the city’s skyline including Lakeview condos for sale.

Although it’s within spitting distance of the city, the golf course makes visitors feel as if they’re miles away. It’s also a great excuse to take the scenic route along Lake Shore Drive.

Considering the large number of players, the maintenance and upkeep are admirable. The grass stays green even till the last days of summer and continues to play very well in November.

Course design and experience

It’s readily apparent from the overall design that the Sydney R. Marovitz course was made for players of all skill levels. This may come as a pleasant surprise to proficient golfers who may not have considered playing here because the experience may be too easy or all too brief.

The golf course, however, can be tougher than it looks.

The tee boxes offer handicaps of all levels and the landing areas on most of the fairways are lined with traps so you’ll need to work on hitting the ball straight.

There are at least two strategically placed bunkers on all of the greens, reminding golfers to be careful on their approach shots. Beginners, on the other hand, will be happy to know that there is only one hole with water, with no other chances for forced carries after that.

The golfing experience will vary depending on the season and the time of day. Play may be slower due to the number of people who regularly flock Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course

Fortunately, the staff is trained to encourage people to increase their playing pace. Golf boards – a cross between a Segway and a scooter – also make it more fun to move from tee to tee. Plus, there’s always the beer cart person to provide refreshing drinks.

Book in advance

While this public-access golf course doesn’t have the full service yet, the $30 fee delivers a lot of bang for the buck.

Just remember to book your tee time in advance, either through their phone or their website, to avoid waiting in line.

You can check out the nearby Clock Tower Café for some great food and drinks after your game.
